Software introduction

One of the finalists of the Very Big Indie Pitch in Bangalore was the recently released Discover O. It's certainly different.

The idea is to swipe a blob of colour either up, down, left, or right as quick as possible.

The way it should be swiped depends on where the the colour it matches appears in the circle surrounding it.

As you do this, images of cities from around the world appear in circles around the screen. San Francisco, Goa, Patagonia, Australia and even outer space are included.

In this way, it's like your reactions are being turned into footsteps, exploring the globe.

However, the longer you can keep up matching the colours, the tougher the challenge gets. The outer circle will speed up more and more as it shrinks. If it shrinks so small that you can't see it you lose.
No iOS gamer missed this: the fantastic Super Mario Run launched in December. But what about Android users? Up until today, you've had to watch with envy while your iPhone-owning buddies tapped through nostalgic 2D side-scrolling levels.

But all that could be changing soon.

The ability to pre-register for Super Mario Run on Android devices appeared on the Google Play Store this morning. So it's definitely on its way.

There's a 30-second video on the store too so you can also see it in action. Looks identical to the iOS version, of course. No mention of price, but we can assume that'll be identical too.

There was a similar "notify me" option in Apple's App Store in the run-up to December's release. So does this mean Super Mario Run will appear on Android imminently? We've been speculating about this for a while now. The iOS version took about three months from announcement to release, but could the Android version leap its way here with more speed than that? Fingers crossed - what a lovely New Year gift that would be. If you pre-register now, you'll be notified as soon as the game becomes available.

In the meantime, check out our review of the iOS version to whet your appetite.

As is customary for any month of the year, Xbox Game Pass is adding some more games to the cloud-streaming portion of its service.

For anyone who’s been playing the first couple of Yakuza games on Game Pass, the remastered versions of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 will debut on the service on 28th January. These titles will be available to stream from the cloud directly to your mobile phone and provide hundreds of hours of gameplay as you run around beating people up in a fictionalised subdistrict of Tokyo.

If you can’t wait that long, Desperados 3, Donut County, and Outer Wilds is coming to the service this Thursday. Desperados 3 is a tactical stealth game set in the Wild West where you utilise different skills and actions to get through each level, while Donut County is a chaotic physics puzzler where you play as an ever-growing hole in the ground.

Outer Wilds, on the other hand, is a space exploration game where you discover the many secrets and surprises hidden within a rich solar system. I’ve played this game on PC and would definitely say it is worth your time.

Cyber Shadow is also hitting Game Pass next week on 26th January. It’s a ninja action game where you slash through the ruins of a megacity to unlock the secrets to your clan’s ancient power.

There are some other games not coming to the cloud detailed in the announcement post on Xbox Wire, such as Control on PC and The Medium on PC and Xbox Series X|S. As always, expect there to be more Game Pass additions in February and we’ll be sure to update you on them when we know more.
Here's a definitive list of all Xbox Game Pass titles on mobile cloud streaming that have touch controls.

A RICH NOBLEMAN once opened the theaters without charge to the people, and gave a public notice that he would handsomely reward any person who invented a new amusement for the occasion. Various public performers contended for the prize. Among them came a Buffoon well known among the populace for his jokes, and said that he had a kind of entertainment which had never been brought out on any stage before. This report being spread about made a great stir, and the theater was crowded in every part. The Buffoon appeared alone upon the platform, without any apparatus or confederates, and the very sense of expectation caused an intense silence. He suddenly bent his head towards his bosom and imitated the squeaking of a little pig so admirably with his voice that the audience declared he had a porker under his cloak, and demanded that it should be shaken out. When that was done and nothing was found, they cheered the actor, and loaded him with the loudest applause. A Countryman in the crowd, observing all that has passed, said, "So help me, Hercules, he shall not beat me at that trick!" and at once proclaimed that he would do the same thing on the next day, though in a much more natural way. On the morrow a still larger crowd assembled in the theater, but now partiality for their favorite actor very generally prevailed, and the audience came rather to ridicule the Countryman than to see the spectacle. Both of the performers appeared on the stage. The Buffoon grunted and squeaked away first, and obtained, as on the preceding day, the applause and cheers of the spectators. Next the Countryman commenced, and pretending that he concealed a little pig beneath his clothes (which in truth he did, but not suspected by the audience ) contrived to take hold of and to pull his ear causing the pig to squeak. The Crowd, however, cried out with one consent that the Buffoon had given a far more exact imitation, and clamored for the Countryman to be kicked out of the theater. On this the rustic produced the little pig from his cloak and showed by the most positive proof the greatness of their mistake. "Look here," he said, "this shows what sort of judges you are."

Sabre Interactive's mobile version of MudRunner initially launched for iOS and Android back in July. Since then they've been releasing DLC at a fairly steady rate, with The Valley and The Ridge arriving earlier this year. Now another has been added called the American Wilds.

This will introduce two American maps, a new gameplay feature, challenge maps and two additional vehicles. The American Wilds will be available through an in-game purchase that will set you back $2.99.

The new locations are both Scavenge maps and are known as Mount Logmore and Grizzly Greek. All of the major facilities are located around a tarmac perimeter and players will have to make their way through tricky terrain to find logs that are scattered around the map.

Meanwhile, the additional challenge maps are called Crane Operator II and Freight-Ex. They will look to test your skills with newly added vehicles. One of those is the K-9000 Forwarder, an 8x8 truck with excellent fuel efficiency.

The second new vehicle is the K-8400 Skidder, an off-road and rescue vehicle that comes equipped with a powerful blade at the front that can help cut through difficult terrain. Both of these vehicles can, of course, be customised with specialised add-ons. Beyond that, players will also find new trailers in the game too.

If you're unfamiliar with MudRunner, it's an off-road simulator where players have to navigate their way through testing terrain that uses realistic physics to mirror the struggle of driving through untamed landscapes. They will have to choose the appropriate vehicles for the job and find a traversable path through copious amounts of mud.

MudRunner is available now over on the App Store and Google Play. It's a premium title that costs $5.99.
On the hunt for some top-tier racing games on mobile? Well, here are 25 of our favourites for iPhone & iPad

Konami said it would "pursue mobile games aggressively" in May earlier this year and that seems to have certainly been the case.

French website GameBlog reports that its sources revealed Konami has no AAA games in development for PC or consoles, apart from Pro Evolution Soccer.

This comes a day after GameBlog found out that Julien Merceron, the worldwide tech director and overseer of the Fox Engine (which Metal Gear Solid V runs on) has left Konami.

Not to mention that Konami ceased production on big AAA games like Silent Hills earlier this year. That was just before Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima also left the company.

If these reports are true, and it seems they are, then Konami has essentially been transforming into a mobile game development house. Everything to do with PC and console games cut off.
EurogamerThe Lion in Love
